Top Recommended Books / Audiobooks

I’ve always been a writer.

I’ve always been a reader, too.

Growing up, I mainly stuck to fantasy novels…

Stuff like that.

I also enjoyed the good stuff during grade school… which was few and far between.

A little Shakespeare was up there too, but in my personal time I would always read things related to science fiction or fantasy.

My all-time favorite fantasy book is Halo: The Fall of Reach. The entire series is gold, but this book in particular is incredible.

Eric Nylund can weave his words in such a way that reading his book is like watching a movie. Each time I read through it, I see every single detail as if I’m sitting in a theater. It’s badass.

Halo: The Fall of Reach

A creased and tattered book is the tell-tale sign that it’s a good one. I’ve read this book at least half a dozen times over the years. The Fall of Reach is a vivid and emotional story.

Challenge Your Mind

Now, as an adult, I am drawn to books that deal with personal development and success.

Until I have achieved my goals, it’s hard for me to justify reading a book for “pleasure” anymore. Now, I focus on books that improve how I think, how I act, and how I do business.

Here are my top 7 recommendations:

1) 30 Days of Discipline

Without 30 Days of Discipline, I never would have gotten off my ass and developed the confidence to go along with the body I’ve worked so hard to obtain over the years.

Victor Pride gives you a step-by-step guide for transforming yourself into a weak-willed little boy into a disciplined killer wolf.

If you follow Victor’s routine, you will develop an iron discipline that you can carry over into other aspects of your life.

2) Gorilla Mindset

Gorilla Mindset is THE BOOK on mindset. Mike Cernovich gives you actionable steps you can take immediately to begin improving your emotions, relationships, lifestyle, and success.

Gorilla Mindset is an absolutely essential addition to anyone’s library. The methods that Mike shares in this book have greatly improved my lifestyle.

3) The Luck Factor

The Luck Factor by Brian Tracy is a spectacular audio program. So many people (loser’s) claim that successful people obtained their success by sheer luck. In reality, successful people make their own “luck.”

Brian Tracy goes over how there is really no such thing as luck, but rather circumstances that have been designed to, over time, yield a favorable result.

The masses never see all the work the goes on behind the scenes. They simply see a multimillionaire movie star on TV and say, “Well, if I was born that pretty I’d be a celebrity too!” Um, no you wouldn’t. Not with that entitled attitude.

It takes hard, smart work to become and remain a success. The Luck Factor will show you how.

4) The 4-Hour Workweek

The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss will help you streamline your life, while laughing your ass off the whole way.

Tim Ferriss teaches you how to achieve your dream lifestyle by defining what you want, eliminating non-essential tasks, automating your streams of income, and liberating yourself from the corporate world and a single geographic location.

5) Millionaire Fastlane The Richest Man in Babylon

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco is the best book on financial success I have ever read. It explains the lies that we have been fed by society about how to accumulate wealth and retire “rich.”

Before listening to the Millionaire Fastlane, The Richest Man in Babylon held this spot. I still highly recommend this book, and its concepts can be used to supplement what you learn in Millionaire Fastlane.

The Richest Man in Babylon will teach the simple concepts behind accumulating wealth and achieving financial freedom.

Babylon was one of the wealthiest cities in history. George Clason uses a collection of parables to show you the secrets they used then, which the wealthy still use now.

These simple concepts will help you grow a fat bank account.

6) The Secrets of Power Negotiating

In the Secrets of Power Negotiating, Roger Dawson will teach you how to negotiate to your advantage. We are constantly negotiating throughout our daily lives, although we may not realize it. Having strong negotiating skills are a must.

I listened to this book on Audible, and I was amazed when I heard the chapter dealing with negotiating for a new car. He mentions every single tactic that was used against me at the dealership when I bought my Jeep, and every boobytrap I fell into during the negotiations.

Learn how to negotiate, and get more of what you want out of life.

7) The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing

The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing by Al Ries and Jack Trout is a fantastic resource for anyone starting a business or even a personal website for You, Inc.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Tiger Fitness, Marc Lobliner, recommended this book to me. Conventional marketing practices fly in the face of what truly works, and this book will help you set your brand apart from the competition.

Marc also recommends the 22 Immutable Laws of Branding and Positioning, by Al Ries and Jack Trout as well.
